Commercial mechanical harvest of oysters stopped in certain areas

North Carolina Marine Fisheries Proclamation SF-1-2022 closed the Pamlico River Area and Neuse River Area bays in Pamlico Sound to the commercial harvest of oysters by mechanical methods from public bottom as of 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 7, 2022.

The proclamation also maintained the closure in the northern Dare area of Pamlico Sound and the northern Hyde area of Pamlico Sound off mainland Hyde County to the commercial harvest of oysters by mechanical methods from public bottom in accordance with the N.C. Oyster Fishery Management Plan Amendment 4.

The Jan. 7, 2022 closure includes the following bays: Juniper Bay, Swanquarter Bay, Deep Cove-The Narrows, Rose Bay, Spencer Bay, Slade Creek, Goose Creek, Jones Bay, Bay River, Adams Creek, South River and West Bay.

Commercial harvest of oysters by mechanical method is prohibited in Mouse Harbor and half of Turnagain Bay. These two areas are not part of the six-week opening.
