Two Dare County high schools win conference cups

- At Dare’s school board meeting on Dec. 14, Manteo High School athletic director Alfie Wheeler announced that MHS’s athletic program won the Wells Fargo Albemarle 1A Conference Cup for 2021. Manteo High School, for the first time since the 2008-09 year, won the Wells Fargo Conference Cup for Albemarle 1A. “Manteo captured the title in the Albemarle 1A, edging John A. Holmes. The Redskins finished the year with 51.5 points in the conference, 5.5 ahead of Holmes total of 46. Manteo teams won conference championships in men’s and women’s soccer, wrestling, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, and men’s track and field. Final Conference Standings: 1) Manteo – 51.5; 2) John A. Holmes – 46; 3) Camden County – 40.5; 4) Perquimans – 38.5; 5) Gates County – 22.5; 6) Washington County – DNP,” reports the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.
First Flight High School won the Northeastern Coastal 2A Well Fargo Conference Cup for the 2020-21 school year. “First Flight clipped Currituck County 98-90 to win the Northeastern Coastal 2A Conference Cup. The Nighthawks won 11 conference titles, including winning the conference in men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, baseball, men’s golf, men’s tennis, and women’s track and field. Final Standings: 1) First Flight – 98; 2) Currituck County – 90; 3) Northeastern – 67; 4) Hertford County – 31; 5) Pasquotank County – 25; 6) Bertie – 10,” reports the NCHSAA.
