They’re back! Tundra swans among migratory waterfowl visiting area

It’s the time of year where local national wildlife refuges in the Outer Banks area attract and load up with migratory waterfowl.
One of the most noticeable visiting birds is the tundra swan (Cygnus columbianus).
The large white birds are known to be loud. If you’re out birding, you may hear a flock of tundra swans long before you see them.
Tundra swans visit the area from their nesting grounds far north in the arctic.
