Dare sets informational meeting on beach nourishment projects

Dare County will hold a public informational meeting to discuss upcoming Hatteras Island beach nourishment projects at 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at the Fessenden Center in Buxton.
The meeting will focus on the two beach nourishment projects that will be constructed on Hatteras Island later this year. The projects include about 2.5 miles of shoreline in Avon and approximately 2.9 miles of shoreline in Buxton.
The public meeting, which will also be livestreamed on Dare County’s YouTube channel, will include presentations from the engineers and contractors for the project. There will also be an opportunity for attendees to ask any related questions they may have.
Those who cannot attend the meeting but would like to submit comments or questions about the projects can email them before or during the meeting to DareCountyPR@DareNC.com.
The Fessenden Center is located at 46830 N.C. 12 in Buxton.
For those who are unable to attend the meeting in person or view the livestream, the video will also be available for viewing on the county’s YouTube channel and on MoreBeachToLove.com following the meeting.
According to the More Beach to Love website, equipment staging in Avon is scheduled for May 2022 with construction starting early June. For Buxton, equipment staging is scheduled for June with construction starting in July. Construction time for both projects is 40 to 60 days.
