Fatal collision just north of Wright Memorial Bridge claims lives of two men

A head-on collision just north of the Wright Memorial Bridge in Currituck County on Friday resulted in the deaths of two men. A four-year old child was transported to Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters.

A 2021 Chevy pickup truck was moving north on U.S. 158; the vehicle moved left of center, crossed the turn lane and collided with a southbound 1994 Nissan Bins Disposal Service truck, loaded with construction debris, a spokesperson for the State Highway Patrol said.

Driving the pickup truck was Kenneth Wade Lucy, 55, of Emporia, Va. The four-year old child was riding in this truck.

The driver of the disposal service truck was Rodney Doyle Minton, 72, of Manteo.

The incident was reported at 12:03 p.m. on Friday, March 25, 2022.

Responding to the scene were troopers from the State Highway Patrol, Currituck County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Emergency Medical Services from Currituck and Dare counties and personnel from Lower Currituck Volunteer Fire Department, Kitty Hawk Fire Department and Southern Shores Fire Department.

The incident remains under investigation.
