Draw, paint, sing, dance and enjoy family-friendly fun at the 33rd Annual Artrageous Kids Art Festival, which will be held at Dowdy Park in Nags Head on Saturday, May 7, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This year’s theme – The Magic of Art – will provide children the opportunity to participate in the magical process of creating art in a variety of media, stated a Dare County Arts Council press release.
“Artrageous is one of our family’s favorite events to attend each year,” said Cara Godwin. “Our community is rich in artists, and seeing them all come together to put on such a great event for kids of all ages is awesome.”
The event is free and will feature kids’ art activities, live music, dance performances, local food vendors and an artisan market including the Young Artist Village showcasing artists 17 and under.
“Participating in the Young Artist Village and selling my work last year was super fun,” said fiber artist Cloey Davis. “There’s a ton of artsy people of all ages and backgrounds at Artrageous, and they appreciate the craftsmanship and time that’s put into my work.”
Organizations and businesses interested in hosting a kids’ art activity and artists interested in selling their works at Artrageous can find the applications online at DareArts.org/artrageous. The application deadline is Thursday, March 31, 2022.
The Artrageous Kids Art Festival is Dare County’s longest-running art program for children and the Artrageous Youth Scholarship Fund awards one scholarship to a senior at each high school in Dare County every year.
Businesses interested in sponsoring the event and the Artrageous Scholarship Fund should contact Dare County Arts Council executive director Jessica Sands at DareArtsInfo@gmail.com.
Dare County Arts Council again partnering with the Town of Nags Head for this event. Sponsors include the Don and Catharine Bryan Cultural Series, artist Paul Shampine and the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau. The project is supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
