Dare LWV luncheon to feature overview of Dare Emergency Management program

The Dare League of Women Voters will hold a “go-see” tour and talk entitled “An Overview of the Dare County Emergency Management Program” on April 8 at 10:30 a.m. at Dare County Emergency Management Services, located at 370 Airport Road in Manteo. The tour will be followed by a noon luncheon at Blue Water Grill, located at 2000 Sailfish Drive in Pirate’s Cove in Manteo.

“Dare League is honored to have Drew Pearson, Director of the Dare County [Emergency Management] as our speaker and tour guide,” stated a Dare LWV press release. “Mr. Pearson will discuss what Emergency Management Services does and the process and authorities used for management decision making. He will also share some preparedness tips and insights on several programs such as the mass notification system called OBX Alerts and the Storm Surge Awareness Program.”

Pearson became Director of Dare Emergency Management in August 2015 after joining the organization in 2014 upon retirement from the Coast Guard as commander, Sector San Juan Puerto Rico. He holds advanced degrees in public administration and emergency management and is designated as a certified emergency manager by the International Association of Emergency Managers.

‘We look forward to learning more from this local expert about how Dare County [Emergency Management] works closely with all agencies (public and private) before, during and after emergencies/disasters to provide the coordination of comprehensive protection of lives and property,” stated the release.
