An early morning fire heavily damaged a duplex in Duck, according to a Town of Duck press release. All occupants are reported safe.
The Duck Fire Department responded in the early hours of Monday, June 13 to a structure fire located at 126 Quarterdeck Drive, a duplex in the Port Trinitie Condos. The address contained units 11 and 12.
Unit 11 was occupied by the co-owners and sustained severe damage. Unit 12, which adjoins unit 11, was occupied by a visiting family and, while the unit itself sustained heavy damage, most of the visitors’ belongings were salvageable, according to the release.
No other structures were involved in the fire and all occupants safely evacuated the building. Support was provided by the Red Cross.
The fire’s cause is under investigation by Dare County Fire Marshall Steve Kovacs.
“Fire crews from Corolla, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills assisted the Duck Fire Department with the containment and suppression of the fire. Duck Police Department, Dare County EMS, and other law enforcement agencies also provided support,” stated the release. “Duck Fire thanks all involved for their efforts.”
