“Momma Nell”
March 2, 1927-June 3, 2022

Nell Tillett, 95, of Wanchese, passed  peacefully at her home in Wanchese.

Born and raised in Duck where her family owned the General Store (now Bob’s Bait and Tackle) that was once a gathering place for the locals, she had many stories to share of those simple and beautiful days growing up in Duck, NC.

Nell would go on to marry Rondal Ketchum Tillett and raise six daughters: Jackie Beasley, Santa Daniels, Rhonda Tillett, Ginger Tillett, Laurie Tillett and Robin Tillett (Chris Phipps). She had six grandchildren: Hank Beasley (Laura), Sascha Watkins (John), Hunt Daniels, Jason Crismon, Ketch DeGabrielle (Camille), Rachel DeGabrielle, 10 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Aside from hosting a large Sunday gathering weekly where she was famous for her made from scratch cheese biscuits, she and her girls all worked the family fish house together as a family unloading Ron’s trawl boats. It was almost an all girl operation in the 60s and 70s!

With a passion, she loved her family, her animals, and her Lord. She also loved the water. Never one to miss a boating trip, ever!

She taught her children compassion, faith, humility, and how to repair just about anything – leaving a legacy that will be hard for any of us to follow, but the best things she left behind were a worn out Bible and a lifetime of great memories . . .

We will miss her.
