The National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) has announced that NAELA President Letha Sgritta McDowell, CELA, CAP has selected Surfing For Autism to receive the 2022 President’s Recognition Award.
Each year, the current NAELA president selects an outstanding individual or organization to receive the President’s Recognition Award. As part of the award, the recipient receives a donation from NAELA to help further its work.
Surfing For Autism is an autism spectrum disorder awareness event held each summer on the Outer Banks that provides participants impacted by autism with a therapeutic surfing experience. Each participant is partnered with two surfers and a skilled therapist or teacher who are well educated in working with the special needs of people with autism to enjoy the day.
“As an attorney who works daily with people with special needs, I see how hard the parents I advise work to support their children and foster meaningful experiences,” said McDowell. “This event brings so much joy to everyone. It’s an honor to support this organization.”
