College of The Albemarle (COA) held a pinning ceremony for graduates of the 2022 practical nursing program on Tuesday, July 26, 2022.
Seventeen graduates were celebrated during the ceremony, which included the presentation of pins, lighting of Nightingale lamps and reciting of the International Council of Nurses’ Pledge. Special recognition was given to Lauren Bolton for receiving the Academic Excellence Award and the Program Distinction Award. Giannina Sanchez received the Mildred W. Moore Nursing Excellence Award. Both COA faculty and classmates voted on this honor.
“This was the 45th practical nursing class for COA; however, that predates the program coming over from the hospital in 1963,” stated a COA press release. “Given the history of both programs, this year commemorates the 59th year the practical nursing program has been available in this region.”
This graduating class included students from Bertie, Camden, Currituck, Dare, Hertford, Pasquotank and Perquimans counties.
