Celebrate Hyde with Farm Days festivities

Hyde County Farm Days starts on Friday night, Oct. 21 and continues with a full day Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022.

The site is Mattamuskeet School Campus.

The Hyde County Chamber of Commerce is organizing the event with many partners to bring back Farm Days, which started in 1968 and continued into the mid-1990s. Farms Days is a celebration of the importance of farming and agriculture and highlight the strengths of rural eastern North Carolina.

On Friday night from 5 to 8 p.m., enjoy a Farm Days barbecue meal catered by the Swan Quarter Volunteer Fire Department. At 7 p.m., attend the Miss Hyde County Pageant.

Saturday is full of fun from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., capped off with fireworks from 8:30 to 9:15 p.m.

Farms Days opens at 10 a.m. with carnival rides, games and vendors.

From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., a dunking booth will be operated and spinning strawberries and musical swings will offer fun.

At 11 a.m., the 4-H chicken and rabbit show demands attention.

An hour later at noon, the Little Miss Hyde County Pageant will take place.

Don’t forget to watch the “corn on the cob” eating contest at 2 p.m. which is followed by a corn hole tournament at 3 p.m. Team entry costs $10.

Live music from Cooper Greer kicks off at 6 p.m.

Throughout the day, vendors will offer down-home cooking and seafood.

Gate price is $25 with ride pass. General entry costs $10.

Partners in this endeavor with the Hyde County Chamber of Commerce are Hyde County Cooperative Extension, County of Hyde, Hyde County Emergency Management Service, Hyde County Parks and Recreation, North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Hyde County Youth Baseball and Softball, local volunteer fire departments, churches and businesses, and Mattamuskeet School.
