Lovie D. Fortune, of Hatteras, North Carolina passed away on October 29, 2022 at age 66 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
She was survived by her loving husband, Ricky Fortune and her son Aaron Pittard and his wife Beth. She had two grandsons, Andrew Pittard and his wife Cameron and Logan Pittard, all of Virginia Beach, Va. Lovie is also survived by two sisters, Karen Rogers of Millsboro, Del. and Cindy Fullerton and her husband Todd of Virginia Beach. She had nine nieces and nephews and six great nieces and nephews. Lovie was preceded in death by her parents, Reece Kermit and Dixie Ballance and her brother David Ballance, all of Hatteras, NC. Her dog, Bella, stayed by Lovie’s side during her entire fight with colon cancer.
Lovie had many passions for life, but her family and friends were her strongest love. She had numerous dogs, some rescue, and even some cats and she raised chickens that followed her around. She was often affectionately called the Chicken Lady. Lovie enjoyed traveling with her family and friends especially to the islands. She loved the beach and the peacefulness of her homes in Pungo and Hatteras where she spent time listening to the ocean, night sounds and stargazing.
The celebration of her life will be held on November 19, 2022 at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 691 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, at 12:00 with a gathering of family and friends at Blue Pete’s restaurant, 1400 N. Muddy Creek Road, Virginia Beach following the service.
