Planning Board agenda amended, Wanchese development proposal withdrawn for now

An item on the Dare County Planning Board agenda for Nov. 14, 2022 has been “withdrawn by Applicant until a Future Date,” according to an amended agenda published Thursday, Nov. 3.

A preliminary sketch review was set for a development proposal for a cluster home group on 10.53 acres located on Old Wharf Road at its split with Pugh Road in Wanchese.

The property is owned by James V. Daughtry and Yvonne F. Daughtry of Saint Leonard, Md. The owners have given permission to Brad Alexander with Aria Construction and Development, Inc., to file a development proposal.

The original proposal called for 36 two-bedroom houses and 24 three-bedroom houses for a total of 60 buildings.

The property is zoned VR for Village Residential, which permits as a special use cluster home development. Maximum size of dwelling is 1,200 square feet of heated/conditioned space occupied or rented for long-term occupancy, which is defined in the Dare County Zoning Code as “A residential dwelling that is occupied and used for residency and housekeeping purposes for a period of 31 days or more.” The definition was adopted Oct. 15, 2018.
