Vivian Woods Gould, 89, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022 in Richmond, VA. Vivian was born in Newport, Rhode Island in 1932 to John and Dorothy Woods and grew up on East Main Road, in Middletown, RI just outside of Newport.

After attending the Newport public schools, Vivian went on to study child psychology at Mount Holyoke College in MA. While attending Mount Holyoke, she met her husband, Princeton grad, Burham Sylvester Gould Jr. and they married in 1955 after they graduated.  She also met her three lifelong close friends Greta Cullison, Margery Mayes and Grace Kerr.

A devoted and loving wife and mother, Vivian moved to many places as her husband’s career advanced including Boston, MA, Stamford, CT, Minnetonka, MN, Woodcliff Lake NJ, Colonial Heights, VA and Anniston AL before eventually retiring to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Burnie and Vivian’s love for the Outer Banks began in 1970 when they would camp there with their three sons.

Upon Burnie’s retirement, Vivian and he traveled extensively around the globe including Europe, China, India, Antarctica, Africa and Iceland.

Besides being a regular tennis and bridge player with her friends, Vivian was well known for her many baking recipes as well as being extremely talented with needlepoint, embroidery, knitting, crocheting and sewing. Over the years she produced numerous needlepoints, clothes, costumes, curtains and blankets for her children and grandchildren, items they will always treasure.

Vivian is survived by her three sons Burnham Gould III (wife, Marylin and children Mario, Michael and Mandy), Eric Gould (wife Kathy and children Trevor, Austin and Connor) and Dana Gould (wife, Elaine and children Katie, Hannah, Kelly and Holly).

Services will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, in Southern Shores, NC on Saturday, December 10 at 1 p.m.
