Three killed in Elizabeth City fire

An early Friday morning fire in Elizabeth City claimed the lives of three individuals.

According to a press release from the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office, on Friday, January 13, 2023 at around 12:33 a.m., PCSO deputies responded to the 1100 block of Millpond Rd. in Elizabeth City after being dispatched by Central Communications to respond for a structure fire.

“When deputies arrived, the residence was fully engulfed with visible flames throughout the structure. Deputies immediately started assisting Newland Volunteer Fire Department with fire suppression efforts,” stated the release.

“After extinguishing the fire and making entry, firefighters found the three victims; two females ages 71 and 44 and a male age 19. Names are being withheld at this time pending notification to all family,” the release continued. “Pasquotank-Camden EMS was on scene to attempt life-saving measures, however all three victims were pronounced deceased on scene.”

The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office is working jointly with the Pasquotank County Fire Marshal and North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations to conduct the investigation. Pasquotank County Fire Marshal Chesson is the lead investigator for this case.

“The Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office sends its sincere condolences to the family during this difficult time,” stated the release.
