A contractor for the North Carolina Department of Transportation will be closing a section of U.S. 158 in Nags Head starting Monday to remove and replace the drainage pipe under the roadway.

The highway will be closed between East Epstein Street and South Seachase Drive. All traffic will be diverted onto N.C. 12, with barricades and message boards guiding motorists through the detour.

Southbound lanes of U.S. 158 will reopen once the initial phase of the pipe replacement is complete, with one lane expected to reopen by the afternoon of Feb. 14.
