The community is invited to enjoy three films and three genres as the Bryan Cultural Film Series brings three classic movies to the big screen.

The Philadelphia Story, The Red Shoes and The Magnificent Seven are three movies that should be in every movie lover’s history of great movies.

Taking a deep dive into why the three movies in this year’s Film Series are classics, Dr. Chris Palestrant, professor of music composition at ECSU, will offer his popular “peek behind the curtain” look at how the movies were made and some little-known titillating tidbits.

The movies are:

The Philadelphia Story

Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant and James Stewart star in one of the great romantic comedies of all time.

Often copied, but never bettered, The Philadelphia Story is a sparkling romantic comedy with impeccable performances, witty dialogue and then perfect vision of director George Cukor.

The Red Shoes

Sunday, March 5

Starring Moira Shearer, Anton Walbrook and Marius Goring.

A powerful and ultimately tragic story of love and betrayal, The Red Shoes is considered one of the best films ever produced by British movie industry.

The Magnificent Seven

The ensemble cast includes Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn, Brad Dexter, James Coburn, Horst Buchholz and Eli Wallach.

Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 Japanese film Seven Samurai is reimagined in what is arguably one of the best westerns ever filmed. Directed by John Sturges, The Magnificent Seven is an action-packed thriller that never loses sight of the humanity of the main characters.
