Cape Hatteras Secondary baseball players reported to practice Monday, Feb. 13, a day or two earlier that Major League pitchers and catchers reported in Florida and Arizona.

The Hurricanes have been working very hard in the offseason. In addition to the physical and mental preparations that the players have been doing, the players have been reaching out to welcome everyone back to the ballpark.

The Cape Hatteras Secondary School baseball program is starting a new community service project this year. Middle and high school players, coaching staff members and volunteers will hold a free spaghetti supper for the community Monday, Feb. 27 at 6:30 p.m. The dinner will take place at the Lighthouse Assembly of God Family Life Center, located at 48745 NC 12 in Buxton, directly across NC 12 from the school campus.

The teams will be introduced to the community. The goal is to allow baseball players an opportunity to give back to the community and to welcome the community to become a part of baseball program as the team kicks off an exciting new season. Preliminary plans are in place to hold an additional supper at the end of the season.

In addition to the free dinner, drawings will be held for Hurricanes baseball apparel as well as tickets to games and other prizes. Community members will also be given information about various ways that they can support the CHSS baseball program if they so wish.

Event sponsors include Conner’s Supermarket, Food Lion, Frisco Rod & Gun and Sonny’s Restaurant.
