The Roanoke Island Garden Club will meet Thursday, March 2 in Room 110 at College of the Albemarle in Manteo.

Beginning at 12:30 p.m., refreshments will be served, followed by a presentation by Don Babin, who has been a beekeeper for more than 65 years. He studied and did research at the University of New Hampshire and the University of Iowa. After school, he established a beehive business providing pollination services for farmers.

When Babin retired, he moved to the Outer Banks and placed 25 hives between Manteo and Corolla, with 50,000 to 60,000 bees per hive. He sells Babin Apiary Honey at Secotan Market. “His clients say his honey is the best they ever tasted,” notes the RIGC meeting announcement.
