Demolition of the former Mako Mike’s building in Kill Devil Hills took place Monday morning, March 27, 2023. The site is the future home of the new Kill Devil Hills Fire Station 14 and Dare County EMS Station 1.
“We’re looking forward to the new stations being constructed with improvements that will allow our first responders to continue providing critical lifesaving services to our residents and visitors,” stated a Town of Kill Devil Hills social media post.
According to information from Dare County, “Station 1 is responsible for providing service to one of the busiest and most populated areas of the Outer Banks – and due to this high demand and need for a rapid response to emergency calls, the replacement of this particular facility is a top priority for Dare County.
“In December 2021, the county finalized the purchase of property in Kill Devil Hills directly to the south of the Kill Devil Hills Fire Department where an entirely new 31,000-square-foot station will be constructed
“Once completed, the new EMS Station 1 in Kill Devil Hills will be the largest EMS facility in the county and enable Dare County EMS to further improve its response times and provide residents and visitors with an even higher level of response to the influx of emergency calls that are received by the department on a daily basis.”
Construction is expected to be completed in the spring of next year.
