The Outer Banks Community Foundation (OBCF) has announced its 40th anniversary Community Impact Grant, a special grant award in commemoration of the organization’s 40 years of service to Outer Banks communities. The grant opportunity is open to all 501(c)(3) nonprofits in the Community Foundation’s service area, including Dare County, Ocracoke Island and Currituck beaches.

The $40,000 Community Impact Grant will be awarded to a nonprofit that addresses mental health and/or substance abuse, with a preference for programs that serve youth. Applications may be for new programs or the expansion of existing, successful programs. The Community Foundation encourages programs that feature collaborations among multiple partners and those that serve a wide geographic area within OBCF’s service area.

“We are thrilled to offer this special grant opportunity in recognition of our 40th anniversary,” said Jean-Louise Dixon, Outer Banks Community Foundation board chair. “Mental health and substance abuse are critical issues in our community, and we are honored to support the important work of our local agencies and nonprofits.”

Over the past several months, the Community Foundation conducted interviews with civic leaders in Dare, Hyde and Currituck counties and asked them to identify their community’s most critical needs. As a result of these interviews, and after careful consideration, mental health and substance abuse were chosen as the primary focus areas for the grant. Of the various unmet needs highlighted during the interviews, the significance of mental health for youth stood out.

Information on how to apply can be found at obcf.org/grants. The deadline to apply is July 14, 2023. Nonprofit organizations are encouraged to apply and the Community Foundation welcomes all inquiries. Prospective applicants are encouraged to call the office to discuss their proposal before applying.

“Outer Banks Community Foundation is committed to supporting the vital work of local nonprofits and looks forward to the positive impact this grant award will have on mental health and/or substance abuse programs that serve our youth,” stated a Community Foundation press release.
