The Nags Head Police Department has announced that at sunset on Friday, April 7, 2023, beaches will be closed to driving due to forecast high surf and strong winds.
“We expect the closure to continue through Monday. This post will be updated when we re-open the beach,” noted the Facebook post announcing the closure.
“Why close the beach? When we have high surf and beach erosion, drivers may not see dangerous scarps (steep slope or a miniature cliff) or, due to the lack of available beach, they may drive onto the dunes and private property,” stated the NHPD announcement.
