Rules noted for Manteo Downtown Social District

Manteo commissioners unanimously adopted a social district ordinance on April 5, 2023.

The ordinance permits consumption of malt beverages or unfortified wine in plastic, paper or Styrofoam cups in the public streets, boulevards, alleys, parks, sidewalks or public buildings within the district.

A permittee is any business that has at least one of six permits from the ABC Commission.

The alcoholic beverage purchased from a permittee must be consumed in the social district and disposed of when the person in possession leaves the district.

The designated social districts must be clearly defined with signs posted in a conspicuous places.

Customer-purchased alcoholic beverage may only be consumed within a social district from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on every day of the week.

Permittee can only sell an open container of an alcoholic beverage if the container:

—Clearly identifies the permittee from which the alcohol was purchased;

—Clearly displays a logo or some other mark unique to the social district;

—Is not glass;

—Displays in 12-point type “Drink Responsibly – Be 21;”

—Does not hold more than 16 fluid ounces.
