Black sea bass recreation seasons set

North Carolina Marine Fisheries Proclamation FF-22-2023 establishes season dates, size and creel limits for the recreational black sea bass fishery in the Atlantic Ocean north of Cape Hatteras.

The proclamation is effective May 15, 2023 at 12:01 a.m.

The two seasons are:

– 12:01 a.m., May 15, 2023 through 11:59 p.m., Sept. 30, 2023; and

– 12:01 a.m., Oct.10, 2023 through 11:59 p.m., Dec. 31, 2023.

Black sea bass must be 13 inches or greater.

Creel limit is 15 black sea bass per person per day taken for recreational purposes.

Possession of black sea bass for recreation purposes outside the seasons is unlawful.

States the proclamation: “The intent of this proclamation is to maintain North Carolina’s compliance with the requirements of the joint Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council/Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission Summer Flounder, Scup, and Black Sea Bass Fishery Management Plan.”
