The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission has reported the death of a teen in a Perquimans County hunting incident.

According to information from Lieutenant John Beardsley of the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission Law Enforcement Division, on May 5, 2023 at around 8:30 a.m., two juveniles were turkey hunting off Hickory Cross Road in Perquimans County.

“The Seventeen-year-old had stood up to look at turkeys across the field with binoculars when he heard his hunting partner’s shotgun go off right next to him. He turned to find that the Fifteen-year-old had been shot,” stated the information from Beardsley. “The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was attempting to stand up when his own shotgun was discharged resulting in his death. The witness called 911 and attempted life saving measures.”
