To the Editor:
Is it possible “the smell of progress” is emanating from the thousands of septic tanks below our feet? Or, perhaps the source is the detritus within the various town centers, where our illustrious planners, with greedy hands extended, collect tax revenues? Most have no, or very little history here on our Outer Banks.
I see sand blowing, and relocating on pristine lawns, littering roadways due to the destruction of indigenous plants and trees that have occupied this historical space for hundreds of years. There is no reverence for lost generations of plant life that held our ground for eons. The savage beauty of this area is quickly disappearing with the blowing sand.
Did we really need three side by side gas stations/convenience stores at the expense of removing ancient live oaks that had feet planted in their home? We were not questioned on our views of this carnage.
We have allowed plunderers to govern, raid and pillage the sanctity of nature and its inhabitants.
