Cape Hatteras soccer match raises funds for program

: Cape Hatteras Secondary’s girls soccer players in red shirts took on the Cape Hatteras soccer alumnae, who now have a 2-1 record against the high school players.

In recent history, Cape Hatteras Secondary soccer players have had three alumnae games, including the one played May 12, 2023.

So far, Cape Hatteras graduates have the upper hand with a 2-1 record against the high school girls team.

The 2023 edition was festive with a juggle warm-up to start. Current high school players wore bright red shirts while the alumnae were outfitted in white Hurricanes t-shirts.

The alumnae scored first. Senior Chloe Flythe tied the score at 1-1. Flythe put the high school team up 2-1 with a 25-yard free kick. The alumnae fought back to tie it up 2-2 with a few minutes left in the match.

It all came down to a thriller penalty kick shootout where the Cape Hatteras Secondary women’s alumnae team sealed the win with a score of 3-1.

“Thank you to everyone that came out tonight, it was an absolute blast and everyone had a great time,” wrote the Cape Hatteras Secondary coaching staff on Facebook. “Another killer fundraiser for our soccer program as we were able to raise $1,700 for the soccer program.”

At the match, referees were Daniel Arellano (2014), Derrick Allen (2024) and Alan Garcia (2023).

9th grade: Nicole Rodriguez, Lupita Palacious, Emma Hill, Estrella Campos and Karina Caldera

10th grade: Cate Parker, Savannah Johnson, Ivonne Cirisa, Gracie Fuller and Acelia Davis

11th grade: Summer Johnson, Sherlyn Mendieta, Lana Luckett and Alice Cirisa

12th grade: Evela Chandler, Lizibeth Lopez, Sayler Bacon and Chloe Flythe

Head coach: Carlos Arellano

Assistant coach: Ian O’Neal
