Calling all pickleball fans: Get ready to sizzle your summer with one of the hottest sports around – pickleball! The YMCA of South Hampton Roads has announced a free and open-to-the-public pickleball open house happening on June 3, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Save the Date: June 3rd, 2023, from 10 am to 1 pm, our gyms will be set up for Pickleball with a sports attendant on hand to provide tips, tricks, and plenty of dill-lightful puns to keep you entertained,” stated the event announcement from the YMCA of South Hampton Roads. “You won’t just be playing pickleball, you’ll be pickling memories that will last a lifetime!”

Participating locations in the local area are the Outer Banks YMCA, Currituck Family YMCA and Albemarle Family YMCA.

“Pickleball is North America’s fastest-growing sport, and you can join in the fun! After June 3rd, you can find Pickleball at almost all of the Y’s across South Hampton Roads,” stated the announcement.

Todd Heineke, vice president of operations, said, “Pickleball is the perfect blend of competition and camaraderie. It’s easy to pick up, making it very accessible to people of all ages and fitness levels. It’s a sport that brings people together in a fun way, and we’re excited to be offering it on such a large scale.”

“Don’t let the name fool you. Pickleball isn’t about pickles or even eating cucumbers courtside (although we won’t judge if you do). It’s about the thrill of the game, the joy of friendly competition, and the undeniable pickleball fun that brings players together. Grab some paddles and give this quirky mix of tennis, ping pong, and badminton a try at the Y!” invited the announcement.
