The Town of Duck has reported a fatality involving a beachgoer.

According to a Duck press release issued Friday afternoon, June 9, on Thursday, June 8 at 11:23 a.m., the Duck Fire Department, Duck Surf Rescue, Duck Police Department and Dare County EMS were dispatched to Ocean Crest Way in the Oceancrest subdivision in Duck after bystanders reported a swimmer in distress.

A good Samaritan pulled the man from the water. He was unresponsive and lifesaving measures were initiated by bystanders until first responders took over medical efforts upon their arrival.

“Despite all efforts, the patient was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:15 p.m. by Dare County EMS,” stated the release.

The decedent, 80, was visiting the area from Schaumburg, Illinois.
