Dare 4-H summer youth programs planned

It’s time to kick off the Dare County 4-H Summer Adventures! Each summer Dare County 4-H offers fun and educational programs for Dare County youth ages 5-18. There’s an extra exciting line up of activities this year. All programs will be held at the Extension office in Manteo from 9 a.m.-12 noon.

On June 19-23, youth ages 9-18 are invited to participate in the Culinary Academy where they will learn about nutrition and food safety and how to use various kitchen utensils and tools while cooking delicious food. The cost of this week-long camp is $55 per youth.

June 27-28 is our Tie-Dye Camp. Get ready to “dye” laughing! We’ll have you tying knots, studying and mixing colors, and creating psychedelic swirls in no time. It’s the perfect place to make new friends and new fashion statements. We will cover tie-dying techniques using natural and synthetic dyes. Don’t miss out on the groovy vibes and colorful memories that await! The cost for this program is $35, which will cover the costs of the t-shirts, towels, socks and dyes. This program is intended for ages 10-15.

If you are interested in plants and ecosystems then our Terrarium Summer Adventure is for you! In this fun-filled program youth will create their own terrarium while learning about plant science. This program takes place June 29-30 and is intended for youth ages 12 – 18. There is a $35.00 cost per youth for this program.

On July 17 we’ll have our Candle-making class! In this program youth will make candles to take home. This program is for ages 11-18 and the cost is $20 per youth.

Have you ever been curious about the world of pollinators and honey bees? Well now is your chance to learn all about these fascinating creatures! Our Busy Bee Summer Adventure is for ages 5-8 and designed to engage youth in the world around them. In this program they will learn about native and honey bees along with other pollinators. The dates for this program are July 27-28 and the cost is $20 per youth.
