The Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® (OBAR) held its 33rd annual charity golf tournament at Kilmarlic Golf Course in Powells Point on Friday, June 2, 2023. The event was a hit with golfers and sponsors alike, as 26 teams of golfers enjoyed a friendly competition and a sunny day on the greens, while raising over $10,000 for OBAR’s Disaster Relief and Scholarship funds.

The tournament was organized by a dedicated committee led by Chair Kaye Jones of TowneBank Mortgage, along with Stephanie Doshier, Anne Morrisette, Kathie Nesbitt, Rob Nichols and Ashley Wood. The committee worked hard to secure sponsors, volunteers and raffle prizes for the event. The golfers were treated to a reception after play at the club sponsored by Malarney & McCown, PLLC. Course sponsors included Caliber Homes, Beverage Cart Sponsor; Currituck Farm Bureau, Alex Fiorillo, big hole sponsor; and The Doshier Team OBX Realty, moment of relief sponsor.

The funds raised by the tournament will support OBAR’s Disaster Relief and Scholarship funds held with the Outer Banks Community Foundation. These funds help not only OBAR members and their families, but also residents who are impacted by natural disasters, such as hurricanes, floods and fires, as well as local high school seniors who pursue higher education. This year, OBAR awarded eight $1,500 scholarships to deserving students. The Disaster Relief fund assisted two families last year who were displaced by fire.

The champions of the tournament were The Matt Myatt Group, consisting of Matt Myatt, Jason Beasley, Beau Spivey and Casey Varnell. They scored a 56 in the scramble format and received the coveted championship trophy and gift certificates to the Kilmarlic Pro Shop. Team captain Matt Myatt said, “I work with a great group of people who truly believe in giving back to the community any way we can. This is one of my favorite opportunities to do so and winning was just the silver lining. We had a fun day and raised money for two great charities.”

Tim Cafferty’s “The Blue Crew” and Dan Hardy’s “Team Lamb” tied for second place with a score of 57.

The golf tournament is part of OBAR’s annual series of charity events, “Surf, Turf, and Roll.” In addition to the golf tournament, the association sponsors a bowling tournament and a surf fishing tournament. The bowling tournament was held in March and the surf fishing tournament will be held on Friday, October 13.

Jones expressed her gratitude to everyone who supported the event. “What a great golf tournament we had at Kilmarlic,” she said. “My heartfelt thanks to all the players, tournament sponsors, hole sponsors, and committee for their support. A big shout out to all the businesses who donated a record number of nice raffle prizes. We raised a lot of money for our charitable causes which benefit the local community. Great job everyone!”
