Scallywags fall after strong showing by Tarboro River Bandits in Monday night game

The Outer Banks Scallywags had trouble keeping up with Tarboro River Bandits in a 17-0 loss on Monday.

Tarboro River Bandits were the first to get on the board in the third when Skyler Saunders grounded out, scoring one run.

The River Bandits scored seven runs on four hits in the top of the fifth inning. Saunders hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, Kruise Newman doubled, scoring one run, Eston Snider singled, scoring one run, and Max Bernal singled, scoring two runs.

Tarboro River Bandits scored six runs on four hits in the top of the ninth inning. Snider doubled, scoring two runs, and Collin Hughes hit a grand slam to right field.

Ryan Neilson earned the win for the River Bandits. They surrendered three hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out nine and walking two. Jacob Raguni took the loss for the Outer Banks Scallywags. The starting pitcher went four and two-thirds innings, surrendering eight runs (four earned) on five hits, striking out four and walking four.

Cole Mascolo led the Scallywags with three hits in four at bats. They turned three double plays in the game.

The River Bandits collected 14 hits in the game. Newman led them with three hits in four at bats. Hughes, the number seven hitter for Tarboro River Bandits, led the way with four runs batted in. They went 2-for-4 on the day. Snider and Phillips Daniels each collected multiple hits for the River Bandits. Armoni Newton paced Tarboro River Bandits with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. The River Bandits didn’t commit a single error in the field. Daniels had the most chances in the field with 16.
