Hayden Friese drives in six to lead Outer Banks Scallywags past Greenbrier Knights

Hayden Friese drove in six runs on three hits to lead the Outer Banks Scallywags past the Greenbrier Knights 16-4 on Tuesday night, July 11. Friese hit a grand slam to right field in the sixth inning, scoring four runs, and doubled in the sixth inning, scoring two.
The Scallywags won thanks in part to 13 runs in the sixth inning. Friese doubled, scoring two runs, Max Puckett singled, scoring two runs, Christian Yoo singled, scoring one run, Josh Foulks drew a walk, scoring one run, Jack Ryan drew a walk, scoring one run, James Duncan singled, scoring two runs, and Friese hit a grand slam to right field.
The Knights were the first to get on the board in the first when Scott McDonough homered to left field, scoring two runs. Then, the Scallywags tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a single by Jackson Thompson, and a hit by a pitch.
The Knights took the lead in the top of the second. Josh Holland singled, scoring one run, to give the Greenbrier Knights the advantage, 3-2. They added one run in the third. Zach Will singled, making the score 4-2.
Porter Braddy earned the win for the Outer Banks Scallywags. The left-handed pitcher gave up three hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out six and walking one. Bryce Burchette took the loss for the Knights. The reliever went two-thirds of an inning, surrendering eight runs (two earned) on four hits, striking out none and walking three. Casey Proctor began the game for Outer Banks Scallywags. The starting pitcher gave up six hits and four runs over three innings, striking out six and walking three. David Baggot stepped on the bump first for the Knights. The starting pitcher gave up five hits and three runs over five innings, striking out four and walking three.
The Scallywags amassed 12 hits in the game. Cole Mascolo, Puckett and Duncan each collected multiple hits for Outer Banks Scallywags. John Simmons led his team with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying nine walks for the game.
The Knights tallied nine hits in the game. Kenny Schaedel and McDonough each collected two hits for their team. McDonough provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Greenbrier Knights with two runs batted in. The number three hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Schaedel stole two bases. They turned one double play in the game.
