Jimmy Courtney of Mechanicsville, Va., left, caught this beautiful 38 lb., citation-sized king mackerel while pin-rig fishing with his dad Courtney off the end of Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head on Monday afternoon, July 10, 2023.

The pair had put in some serious time waiting for the bite over the course of the weekend.

Jimmy, 11, and his dad were thrilled when the big fish came along.

“I fought it for five minutes – it ran out a bunch of line, then it was dead [tired],” Jimmy said.
