Powells Point man facing drug, other charges following short pursuit

The Currituck County Sheriff’s Office has reported the arrest of a Powells Point man on multiple charges following a vehicle stop and a short foot pursuit.

According to a CCSO news release, on July 20, 2023 at around 2:40 p.m., deputies stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Edgewater Road in Harbinger.

“The vehicle stopped at the gas pumps located at the Joe’s Kwik Mart in which at this time Mr. Michael Spry, a passenger, exited the vehicle and fled on foot away from deputies,” stated the release. “Deputies were able to identify Spry and had knowledge that he was wanted for a probation violation out of Chesapeake, Virginia.”

Deputies apprehended Spry after a short foot pursuit and took him into custody. CCSO K9 Omar assisted detectives in locating approximately 15 grams of methamphetamines in the vehicle packaged for sale, stated the release.

Michael Eugene Spry Jr., of Powells Point, was arrested and charged with fugitive from another state, misdemeanor resisting a public officer, felony possession with the intent to sell or deliver methamphetamine, felony maintaining a vehicle for the storage of controlled substances, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

The driver of the vehicle was not charged.

Spry is being held at the Currituck County Sheriff’s Detention Center on a $109,000 secured bond.
