Strategies detailed for opioid settlement funding

By resolution, Dare County commissioners allocated $424,188 in opioid settlement funds for fiscal year 2024 in accordance with the memorandum of agreement between the State of North Carolina and Dare County and local governments participating in the settlement agreement.

The resolution allocates the funding through four authorized strategies and includes the amount authorized, description of the program, project or activity and the provider. The time period for use of funds is July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024.

First strategy: Recovery Support Services. $64,188 for post-overdose response coordinator through Dare County Health and Human Services.

Second strategy: Evidence-based Addiction Treatment. $50,000 for tuition for treatment fees for providers Changing Tides Addition Center and Dare Challenge Addition Center.

Third strategy: Criminal Justice Diversion. $100,000 for Recovery Court Coordinator through Dare County and North Carolina Courts.

Fourth strategy: Criminal Justice Diversion. $50,000 for linking jail population to resources needed, counseling services, co-pays, entry fees, rehab costs, clothing, med assistance and healthcare through Dare County Detention Center.

Fifth strategy: Naloxone Distribution. $150,000 for supply of Naloxone and Fentanyl test strips to the community through Dare County Health and Human Services.

Sixth strategy: Recovery Support Services. $50,000 for addressing community recovery supports for transportation assistance to recovery groups, counseling appointments, rehab, food, clothing, healthcare needs and medications through Dare County Health and Human Services.
