Letter to the Editor: Housing series appreciated

To the Editor:
I want to commend The Coastland Times for the excellent three part series on “… state of housing on the Outer Banks.” We have noticed the growing problem with finding adequate housing for summer workers since the 1980s but with the advent of the Covid crisis the service market and the additional year-round inhabitants have changed the dynamics. Your recent articles were well researched and delivered, most timely! Today’s Daily Press highlighted the problems of the food service industry in areas of our Tidewater region that are not associated to the housing crisis as in our OBX.
I wonder why the city/county managers do not take a more unified regional approach in advising their employers (elected bodies) of solutions following public input sessions? Managers are the “professionals” paid for their expertise and research to a regional solution.
