Local REALTOR® and attorney Jeff Malarney was elected as the chair of the North Carolina Real Estate Commission (NCREC) by commission members at their monthly commission meeting in June. NCREC plays a pivotal role in setting rules, regulations and enforcing standards within the real estate industry.

Malarney says he feels, “honored that my colleagues and the real estate community have put their trust in me. It’s an incredible chance for me to keep pushing for integrity and professionalism in our industry. Let’s work together to make sure the real estate market in North Carolina flourishes, protecting the interests of consumers and promoting growth for everyone involved.”

While Malarney will not begin presiding as chair until the August 16-17 meeting, he has already dedicated himself to the upcoming year saying, “As Chairman of NCREC, I am passionate for the real estate industry and committed to upholding its highest standards. Recognizing the profound impact that real estate has on individuals and communities, I am dedicated to fostering a fair and ethical environment, where industry professionals can thrive, and consumers can trust in the integrity of their transactions. In fact, this is not Malarney’s first election to chair of NCREC.  He served as chair in 2019. While other members have served as chair multiple times, he is one of the only attorneys to have served multiple terms. Malarney first began serving on the commission in 2007-2013 and has been serving again since 2018.

OBAR president Natalie Painter of Howard Hanna says, “We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Jeff Malarney on his exceptional achievement of being elected Chair of the NCREC. Jeff’s appointment is not only a personal triumph but also a significant win for our local community here on the Outer Banks. It is vital to have strong representation at the local, state, and national association levels, and Jeff’s extensive involvement with organizations like Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® (OBAR), North Carolina Association of REALTORS® (NCR), and the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) demonstrates his commitment to the real estate profession.”

OBAR -resident-elect Richard Tolson of RT Realty OBX, LLC says, “Being selected as one of nine commission members among the 57,000 NC REALTORS® from 45 local associations is a remarkable feat. However, to be elected as Chair is truly extraordinary. Jeff’s leadership, expertise, and dedication will undoubtedly serve as a guiding force, benefiting both local REALTORS® and homeowners alike.”
