Child Support Awareness Month declared in Dare proclamation

The Dare County Board of Commissioners has declared August Child Support Awareness Month. The proclamation, unanimously adopted Aug. 7, 2023, reaffirms the county’s commitment “to strengthening Dare County families by providing child support services to improve the economic stability and well-being of children.”

The proclamation states that in fiscal year 2023, more than $2.2 million in child support was collected from parents of Dare County children.

In the county, 731 child support orders are in place to ensure 791 children receive financial support from their parents.

The special month salutes the “diligent working parents who spend time with their child and who make regular child support payments …”

The proclamation also points to the “many concerned and dedicated judges, district attorneys, clerks of court, sheriff’s personnel and child support professionals working to establish and enforce child support orders …”
