Man ejected from motorcycle in Kill Devil Hills collision, sustains serious injuries

The Kill Devil Hills Police Department has reported that on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, Kill Devil Hills police responded to a collision involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle at the intersection of US 158 and Colington Road.

According to KDHPD, at approximately 8:32 p.m. on Tuesday, a female driver, 17, from Kill Devil Hills and operating a Nissan passenger car, was in the northbound turn lane of US 158 preparing to turn left on Colington Road toward Colington Harbour. She failed to see the approaching Yamaha motorcycle and turned in front of it. The motorcycle driver, a 20-year-old male from Manteo, struck the front of the Nissan and was ejected from the motorcycle.

“The collision, rescue response and subsequent investigation resulted in a shut-down of parts of the intersection for over an hour,” stated KDHPD. “The operator of the motorcycle was transported to Outer Banks Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.”

The driver of the Nissan was cited for failing to yield the right of way.
