WINDSOR – Charles Taylor “C.T.” Spruill, 75, of Batchelor Bay died Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Greenville Inpatient Hospice House. He was born in Windsor, NC on August 17, 1948 to the late Henry Bazemore “H. B.” and Nancy Taylor Spruill.
CT was a well-respected businessman and entrepreneur, serving as President of Spruill Oil Company, Page East, USA Tower, and several other companies. He attended high school at Woodberry Forest in Woodberry Forest, VA and graduated from Bertie High School in Windsor, NC; graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill where he was a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He was a member of the Lauderdale Yacht Club. He was a talented guitar and piano player.
Visitation was held Sunday, September 17, 2023 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home Windsor.
A memorial service was held Monday, September 18, 2023 at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Windsor. Inurnment followed in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Jackson Spruill; their son, Charles Taylor Spruill Jr. and his two sons, Brooks Beasley Spruill, and Charles Jenkins Spruill. He is also survived by a brother James Walton Spruill and wife Nancy; sister-in-law Nancy Gillam Spruill; sister-in-law Sally Ackley and her husband BL; sister-in-law Peggy West and her partner David Chorley; and his nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Henry B. Spruill Jr., and Hunter Wayland Spruill; a son, Brooks Beasley Spruill; a daughter Claire Hunter Spruill; his parents Henry Bazemore Spruill and Nancy Taylor Spruill; maternal grandparents Hunter Hillery Taylor and Mattie Scull Taylor; paternal grandparents, “Cousin” Charles Wayland Spruill and Ruth Bazemore Spruill.
The family received friends at their home at Batchelor Bay. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in CT’s memory may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, P.O Box 400, Gray Street, Windsor, NC 27983 or to the Greenville Inpatient Hospice House, 920 Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834.
