The Roanoke Island Woman’s Club has been collecting plastic bags to recycle. The group is working in conjunction with Trex. For every 500 pounds of bags they send, Trex will send them a bench to be used in the community.

RIWC is a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of North Carolina.  The State President’s Special Project for her administration (2022-2024) is the Mountain to Sea Trail. RIWC members decided that they would donate a bench to Jockey’s Ridge State Park, since it is the end of the 1175-mile Mountain to Sea Trail.

This ceremony will take place at Jockey’s Ridge State Park Visitor’s Center at 4:30 p.m. on September 28, 2023. The community is invited to come out and join in the festivities. “After the dedication ceremony, Friends of the MST staff and local partners will meet at a local restaurant to be announced at the event,” stated the event announcement. “We invite you to stop by for drinks or dinner to continue to celebrate. You are responsible for your own tab.”
