To the Editor:

My family spent the recent weekend of September 14-18 at the Corolla Light Resort on Hampton Street in Corolla. On Monday morning, as we were departing for our homes, my 84 year old mother and I stopped on the way out to scatter a capsule of my father’s cremated ashes in the sound, as this was our first return to the Outer Banks without Dad.

As I must have been distracted by emotion, I left my father’s camera on the dock and drove off obliviously on an 8 hour drive home. It was two hours up the road when we stopped for lunch before I realized the camera was missing.

As a shot in the dark I called the people at the Corolla Light Resort to report the loss as well as the Corolla sheriff’s department. Whoever was there on Monday, September 18 went above and beyond – the camera was found and mailed back to me insured before the end of the week.

What could have been a memory of terrible loss ended up a story of honesty, integrity and helpfulness. Thank you, people of Corolla Light Resort!
