Every second full week of October, National Wildlife Refuge Week is celebrated.
Regionally, there are nine national wildlife refuges, managing over 400,000 acres of refuge land. Nationally, there are more than 560 National Wildlife Refuges administering app. 856,000,000 acres.
“The mission of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is to work with others to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people,” noted a USFWS release.
