Cape Hatteras Secondary marching band comes home with trophies

The 48th edition of the Peanut Festival and Battle of the Bands was held Oct. 7, 2023 in Edenton at John A. Holmes High School.

At this year’s Peanut Festival, the Cape Hatteras Secondary marching band received top honors in the Division 1A competition. The band came home with trophies marking First Place in Overall 1A Bands, First Place General Effect, First Place Visual Effect, First Place Music and First Place Percussion. The band’s color guard received a second place award, and the drum major came in third.

Cape Hatteras Secondary competed against Pasquotank High School, which finished in second, and Gates, which came in third, reports the Chowan Herald.

Battle of the Bands proceeds benefit the music programs of the Edenton-Chowan County Schools.

Cape Hatteras Secondary’s marching band will perform again in Pasquotank at the Panther Band Classic with four 1A bands in the category on Oct. 21.

At Cape Hatteras Secondary, seventh and eighth grade and high school bands will perform at Fall Concert on Monday, Oct. 30. The Winter Concert will feature all bands on Tuesday, Dec. 12.
