Like purple martins, barn swallows (Hirundo rustica) love to eat insects that annoy most people, including mosquitoes, flying termites, wasps, flies and many others.
Barn swallows, like the one pictured here at Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge, are active birds and catch most of their insect meals in-flight.
