Those own a property on the Outer Banks may have questions about property insurance. Property owners may wonder why they need a separate wind policy, how the rates are determined, and what programs are available to help reduce costs.

To answer these questions and more, the Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® and Dare County invite the public to attend a “Community Conversation on Property Insurance” on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at 6 p.m. that will take place at the Dare County Commissioners Meeting Room located at 954 Marshall C. Collins Drive in Manteo.

The forum will feature two special guests: Gina Hardy, CEO of the North Carolina Insurance Underwriting Association (NCIUA), and Joanne Biliouris, general manager of the North Carolina Rate Bureau. They will explain the “Beach Plan” and the Strengthen Your Roof grant program for fortified roofs in the coastal areas, as well as the property insurance rate making process in North Carolina.

“Property insurance is a vital part of home ownership, and we want to help property owners of the Outer Banks understand their options and opportunities. We are thrilled to have these experts join us for this informative event” said OBAR president Natalie Painter.

The forum will also include a question-and-answer session. Questions may be submitted in writing during the event. For those who cannot attend in person, the event will be aired later on Current TV.

“Do not miss this chance to learn more about property insurance and how it affects you,” stated an OBAR news release announcing the program. “Mark your calendar and join us on November 2!”
