The Elizabethan Gardens’ “A Night of 1587 Pumpkins” event will be held on Saturday, October 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. Treats, contests and, of course, pumpkins set the stage for this fun-filled family event.

“In 1587, English colonists came to Roanoke Island. At this event, we will attempt to light 1,587 jack-o-lanterns. Come carve a pumpkin for free beforehand or bring a carved pumpkin to the event to help reach our goal,” said The Elizabethan Gardens executive director Theresa Armendarez. “Guests may follow a map of the Gardens to gather candy at designated ‘treat stations’ and enjoy lawn games.” Costume and scream contests – grouped by age – will be a highlight of the evening. Hot chocolate, apple cider, and s’more kits will be available for sale to enjoy at the firepit.

Standard admission applies: Adults $12 (ages 18 and older); youth $8 (ages 6 to 17); children $4 (ages 3 to 5); child free (2 and under); dog $5. All guests – members and not-yet-members – are encouraged to purchase online tickets in advance. Oak Circle members may select this fall event to receive eight free passes. Tickets and additional information are available online at elizabethangardens.org.
