A longtime Currituck County employee has been appointed interim director of the newly-renamed Planning and Inspections Department. Bill Newns, chief building inspector, will serve as the department head until a permanent Planning and Inspections director is named, stated a Currituck County announcement. The position is currently being advertised by the Currituck County Human Resources Department.
Newns has worked for Currituck County since 2000. His appointment is effective Monday, October 30, 2023, following the resignation of Kevin Kemp. Kemp served as director of the Development Services Department and resigned to accept another career opportunity. His final day with Currituck County was October 27, 2023.
Effective Monday, the Development Services Department has been renamed to better reflect the staff’s mission and responsibilities, noted the announcement. The Planning and Inspections Department includes the areas of planning, zoning, building inspections, permits and code enforcement. Staff members are located at the Historic Courthouse complex on the mainland and the county office in Corolla.
